As part of Portland Dance Month 2018, Laura K. Nicoll created a public performance called PROMENADE that traveled from the pier at Casco Bay Ferry Terminal to in front of the offices of Creative Portland. The performance lasted 2 hours and made it’s way along city streets and through public parks, to the steps of City Hall, and along Congress Street as part of the monthly art walk. It was a solo, and mostly improvised in direct response to the built and natural environment as well as the people sharing the space.
On October 4 2019, PROMENADE kicked off Portland Dance Month 2019 and feature performers Janoah Bailin, Kyle Sandberg, Michelle Tsiakaros, Kerry Anderson, Heather Flor Cron. More info.
“What a neat way to see Portland, to experience Portland as I've never experienced it. When I'm there I'm usually going somewhere, so not as mindful or observant about what I'm passing by, who is on the sidewalk, what fire hydrant is there, what obstacle to the curb is there, how many steps up to City Hall…” –– an audience member who witnessed PROMENADE
